BPROGRAMS OFFERED

1. Reading and Responding for Grades Pre-K – 1
                                                           20 – 30 minutes
  • Read two of my books.
  • Engage children in responding and sharing.

2. Writing Process for Grades 2 – 8
                                                         45 – 60 minutes

OPTION 1* – Author Interview (Ideal within an Author Study unit)
  • Students will have the opportunity to ask questions they’ve prepared in advance because they’ve perused my website (which I recommended for this age group). These questions may be about my book, my writing process, and/or my journey to publication.
  • Students may also choose to share what they’re working on in their writing life and ask questions related to their own writing and/or process.
OPTION 2* – Path to Publication
  • Students will learn about my path to publication (what inspired me, how I get ideas for my books, how long it takes for a book to be published, etc.).
  • Students will have time to ask questions.
OPTION 3 – Top 10 Tips to Improve Your Writing
  • Students will get the inside scoop on the top tips that will make them better writers, no matter what type of writing they're doing. Students will be inspired to apply, immediately, what they've learned in this session to their current writing assignment.
  • Students will have time to ask questions.
OPTION 4 – Telling Stories from Different Perspectives
  • Students will have the opportunity to look at several images and discuss what each shows. What do they see? What story is possibly being told? What is missing in the images that might give us more information?
  • Students will have time to create a short story about one of the images.
OPTION 5 – Writers' Workshop (Choose one.)
  • Generating Ideas
  • Revising
  • Writing Autobiographical Poems
 
3. Personalized Writers' Workshop for Grades 2 – 8
                                                           45 – 60 minutes
  • This is a unique opportunity to create something just for your students! 
  • Tell me what unit a particular class or grade level will be studying during my visit, and I’ll plan an appropriate lesson.
  • I will need to communicate with the teacher(s) in advance to make sure the lesson is targeted to your students’ needs.

  • Up to Five Reading and Responding Sessions
  • Two Reading and Responding Sessions and Two Writing Process Lessons (One may be Personalized)
  • Three Reading and Responding Sessions and One Writing Process Lesson (One may be Personalized)
  • Four Writing Process Lessons (Two may be personalized.)
NOTES: Time needs to be built in to sign books. 
               An adult lunch should be provided.

Half-Day Visit 
Choose one of the following:
  • Three Reading and Responding Sessions 
  • Two Reading and Responding Sessions and One Writing Process Lesson
  • Two Writing Process Lessons (One may be personalized.)
